With the goal of creating a space for knowledge mobilization MRT has invited the ground-breaking We’koqoma’q Residential School Survivors (WRSS) to Guysborough to carry out a daylong experiential event, in which they will lead us through the healing workshop that they have developed. After a 15 years WRSS members have gone from being unable to speak about their residential school experience to giving public talks and helping fellow survivors.
Because of the connection between Indigenous ways of life and Indigenous health, the day will also include a healing celebration of culture. This will include a traditional meal of moose meat and bannock, participatory basket weaving, drumming, dancing and a mini-market for selling beaded jewelry.
In tandem with this project we will offer the Kairos Blanket Exercise and a screening of Indian Horse.
