MRT has two positions available under the Canada Summer Jobs program: Production Assistant and Administrative Assistant.

POSITION ONEPRODUCTION ASSISTANT
Mulgrave Road Theatre is seeking a Production Assistant (PA) to assist with our theatre production and special events taking place during our summer season. This is an 8-week term under the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Theatre Production
The PA will provide logistical and administrative support to the technical director, stage management team, and creative team. Key duties can include assisting with rehearsals, setting up props/costumes, managing paperwork, coordinating schedules, and aiding with technical load-in/load-out to ensure that events run smoothly. 
Key Responsibilities

  • Rehearsal Support: Setting up/breaking down rehearsal rooms, tracking script changes, taking notes for the stage manager, and running lines with actors.
  • Production Logistics: Assisting in lighting, audio, set construction, or paint shops; managing props; and aiding with venue load-in/load-out. Making sure the stage floor is swept and mopped before every tech rehearsal and performance.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintaining and distributing relevant paperwork requested by the stage manager, such as rehearsal reports, call sheets, and technical documents.
  • General Support: Running errands, organizing backstage areas, and facilitating communication to keep schedules on track. 
  • Being on site for all performances; responding to emergencies and problems with maturity and intelligence. Reporting all incidents and emergencies to senior staff.

Special Events
Reporting to the Technical Director, the PA will assist with set-up and tear-down of equipment, and carry out other duties as required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and other relevant apps and platforms
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team,
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and do accurate, high-quality work
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Availability to work flexible hours

Experience:
Previous work in theatre will be considered an asset. This position requires good time and task management, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team.

The Production Assistant position is 35 hours per week, with a rate of $17.00 per hour. The successful applicant will begin June 8, 2026.

POSITION TWO – ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Mulgrave Road Theatre is seeking applications for an administrative assistant. This is an 8-week term under the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Working closely with and reporting directly to the Managing Director, this position requires good time and task management, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team.
Excellent writing skills are considered an asset.

The successful candidate will have good project management skills, that include the following:

  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and other relevant apps and platforms
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Comfort with decision making and problem solving
  • Ability to meet deadlines and do accurate, high-quality work
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Familiarity with typical office equipment
  • Availability to work flexible hours
  • Ability to use digital technology and tools to find, manage, apply, create, and share information and content
  • Ability to contribute and support others to achieve a common goal

 Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the Managing Director and Executive/Artistic Director as needed
  • Provide support to Operations Manager as necessary
  • Maintain organization of incoming requests from public
  • Check and respond to email, voicemail, answer phones
  • Maintain appointment calendars, arrange and attend meetings if required
  • Assist with ensuring office runs smoothly and efficiently in a professional and confidential manner

Experience:
Previous work in an office environment will be considered an asset. Knowledge of non-profit and arts organizations preferred but not required.

This position is 35 hours per week, with a rate of $17.00 per hour. The successful applicant will begin June 8, 2026.
