Coal Bowl Queen

A collection of monologues of love, basketball, friendship and community woven into a narrative of a high school girl trying to make her mother proud by being crowned the Coal Bowl Queen. The play is based on the legendary event that is the Coal Bowl – a national basketball tournament that was founded in 1982 and takes place in the harsh month of February, bringing high school boys basketball teams from all over the country to the little former mining town of New Waterford, Cape Breton for one whole week.
