Ekphrasis 5.0 – Call for Submissions

In partnership with ArtWorks East, MRT is seeking 10 writers who are based in the Guysborough/Antigonish/Cape Breton region to be part of Ekphrasis, to take place in July, 2025.

Based on ekphrastic literature, each writer will take inspiration a piece of visual art; and then create a poem, a monologue or other short form narrative.

ArtWorks East will hold an exhibit of original works at the Guysborough Marina. Each writer will choose a piece of art from the collection and expand on its meaning.

The written pieces will be shared at a public reading on late July 19, accompanied by the visual art.

Each writer will receive a $200 honorarium for their work.

To apply please submit a cover letter, resumé and a short sample of writing by 12:00 noon, June 17, 2025.
